Looking for WebObjects/OpenStep/Java Professionals?

BPG's primary business focus is placing WebObjects/OpenStep/Java professionals. If you are looking for such people, then our company (BPG) offers the best solution for finding such candidates. If you are interested in hiring someone, or would just like to look at some WebObjects resumes, please send an email to lozinski@openstepnews.com.

BPG knows more architects, managers, developers, system administrators, mentors, testers, web page builders, and user interface designers than anyone else in this market, and we have a great process for getting those people to meet you. BPG publishes the OpenStep electronic newsletter, which is targeted at OpenStep developers. The newsletter reaches at least 2500 experienced WebObjects/OpenStep developers, with many more getting it through email distribution lists. To help you find the right person, BPG can place your job advertisement in the newsletter. This is the best way to have your job advertisement seen by the most OpenStep professionals. Since this newsletter has been around for two years before the Apple purchase of NeXT Software, the OpenStep Newsletter has an excellent readership of tough-to-find experienced OpenStep professionals.

BPG can also offer next day placement service using our existing database of OpenStep developers actively seeking work. If you need someone right away, we can search the database to find the best candidate. Newsletter readers who send in their resumes looking for jobs get registered in the database. The database currently has 298 registered experienced professionals, with more people being added all the time. The database is carefully indexed according to key characteristics. Thus it is a simple matter to search for people with the characteristics that meet your needs. When job seekers first register in the database, we send their resumes to the appropriate hiring managers. If the hiring manager is interested, Vernetta our Human Resources professional sets up the interviews and facilitates the matchmaking process. This entire process has proven itself remarkably effective at finding the right person for each situation. With a large number of candidates, a carefully indexed database, and a real understanding of the hiring process, BPG can find you the person who best meets your job requirements; quickly and cost effectively.

The BPG service includes the newsletter, the database, and experienced professionals facilitating the process. BPG also understands the importance of matching different personality types, and will help you find the type of person who would best fit each position. The matching of professionals to hiring managers includes various subjective considerations which are simply not possible in a completely computerized process. With our track record of successful placements, BPG has shown an ability to match professionals with hiring managers that leaves all parties feeling good. If you are interested in hiring someone, send us an email to lozinski@openstepnews.com.

a) European Economic Community Citizens
We have a strong demand in Europe and particularly in Germany for consultants and developers. Let us know if you have citizenship in a country that is part of the European Economic Community. In Europe individuals must give 3 months notice before leaving their employer. Sometimes they are on a long term contract they may not terminate. So people who are available immediately are hugely valuable. For example if you have EEC citizenship, but are living in the United States so that you can quit in 2 weeks, we definitely want to talk to you. Or if you are living in Europe, and have given notice and are free to go, we also want to talk to you.

b) Venture Capital Funded Companies
We currently know six venture capital funded WebObjects companies Some of these are quite young; some are growing like gang-busters. They all offer stock or stock options to their employees. These companies generally have about 30-70 employees. You get stock and a good chance at going public. They are generally informal organizations, no strict rules, casual dress code, a real focus on completing the products. Of course one of these companies is very formally run. Often the developers are the most valued individuals in the organization. We have three of these companies hiring full-time people, and one looking for consultants.

c) Financial Industry Consulting
If you have experience in any financial industry, we have a client who would love you to consult for them.

d) Fortune 500 Companies
If you like stability and security, try working for our Fortune 500 clients. These are very large organizations with great stability, retirement plans, and career opportunities. Very different from working for a startup. We have one opening for a consultant.

e) WebObjects Consulting Companies
We know several WebObjects consulting companies. These are companies that offer consulting services to their clients. They are often great places for less experienced OpenStep developers who are really looking for additional training in OpenStep tools.

f) Great Quality-of-Life Opportunities
We know several companies located in wonderful environments. One company is in a rural location. Imagine an uncongested alternative to Silicon Valley, a place where traffic is light, real estate is cheap, and the cost of living is low. Interested? If not we also have opportunities in a vivacious city. Choose your lifestyle, we have the job to match it.

g) Well-Designed Java Applications
We have had a number of clients ask for OpenStep developers who have Java Experience, or are interested in working on Java projects. These clients like the clean object-designs created by OpenStep developers, and understand that it only takes a week or two to teach the Java syntax, so they come to us looking for the right people.

h) Project Managers
We are starting to broker project managers as well as developers. Managers have higher salaries but, more importantly, their compensation usually includes significantly more stock than developers receive.

i) Recent College Graduates
Similarly, we are also able to help recent college graduates find positions. We can help you start the career you really want Don't limit yourself at this crucial early phase in your development.

j) Security Clearance Needed
We have a client who is aggressively seeking individuals with existing security clearances, or who are willing to apply for a security clearance.

k) Indian WebObjects Developers
We have a client in Europe who is seeking experienced WebObjects developers from India. The client plans on flying to India to interview people as soon as I locate the people to be interviewed. If you are working in India, and know WebObjects, please send your resume to lozinski@openstepnews.com. We have had a problem with Indian citizens who do not know WebObjects applying for this position.

Case Studies

BPG offers a service of matching WebObjects/OpenStep developers with jobs. After more than two years of doing this, and with our combined OpenStep and Human Resources backgrounds, we have finally gotten quite good at doing it. Here are some early case studies. We will be adding more recent case studies in the future.

I am sorry to say that this is a small subset of the people we have placed. These are some of the earlier placements.

Candidate #86 was my first placement. He was a very relaxed type of guy, did not want the hassle of looking for a position. But he did need the money. The hiring manager was very poor at calling back, but I kept calling her until I got through and, through shear persistence, got this person a position at $70/hr. It turned out that this was not the best company to work for. It paid its bills late, and generally was not gentle with its developers. We both learned a lot about that company, and now when I submit people there, I let them know what they are getting into. I generally do not spend much time now pushing people to this company, simply because there are better employers out there.

Candidate #25 was a very senior system administrator and wanted a challenging position. The hiring manager of a large company wanted a system administrator to be responsible for his company's very large global netinfo network. The manager wanted someone the other system administrators would report into, a systems administration engineering position. When he called, I fired up my database, sorted out the system administrators, and then introduced the hiring manager to the most senior such person. Everyone is now very happy indeed.

Candidate #90 wanted to move to a rural location and get more involved with the internet. He wanted a small company where he was an important player. I matched him with an OpenStep Centric Internet Service Provider who wanted an experienced developer who could singlehandedly take care of everything. It is a very interesting position. Not only does the company have its own internal billing application, but also there will be some WebObjects consulting. The company is also getting involved in cable modem business, and this jack-of-all-trades position will be doing something new regularly.

Candidate #1 was a physics major with three years of NEXTSTEP experience. After looking at several commercial database applications, he had difficulty getting interested. So I found him a position for a medical equipment company controlling X-ray beams being focused on cancerous tumors in the brain. The company was delighted to have someone with experience doing work very much like it was doing. They flew him and his wife in to visit. His wife liked the city, the deed was done, and 10 years from now, I am sure that he will still be there, very much the richer for his stock options.

Candidate #36 and Candidate #37 are married. They needed a place that would take both of them. They wanted a job quickly. They also wanted to move to the San Francisco Bay Area. I found them a place that really valued their design experience.

Candidate #63 had four years of NeXTStep experience but no commercial experience. He really wanted to move to the San Francisco Bay Area. He was quite frustrated with another recruiter who kept calling him up and asking him to go places he did not want to go to. He liked that I was very NeXT-centric. I found him a job in the San Francisco Bay Area, and he is still there, happily programming away.

Candidate #32 lived in Stuttgart and liked programming. He had found a NeXT computer at school that no one knew anything about. After a friend who knew a little bit got him started, he taught himself. Being a sharp fellow, he contacted me when he was looking for a job. I found him a position with a company located close to Stuttgart. The company was seeking an entry-level person without relocation costs. A perfect fit. It is amazing; it is often easier for me to know the companies in your city than it is for you to know them.

The proven strength of this employment service is our ability to make good matches, where everyone gets what they want. I believe that this is unique in this marketplace. If you are interested in our service, please contact us at resumes@openstepnews.com
